How to Read a Google Maps GeoGrid Report
A GeoGrid report looks like a colorful map of numbers. Here's how to read it and which parts actually matter.

Read it in this order
- 1
Check the keyword
Each grid is for one search term. Make sure it's a term your customers actually use.
- 2
Check the grid size and spacing
A tighter grid covers a smaller area. Compare only grids with the same size, spacing and center.
- 3
Look at the center
Your ranking near your business is usually your strongest. If you're weak even there, relevance is likely the issue.
- 4
Find where you fade
The edge where green turns red shows how far your visibility reaches.
- 5
Note who wins the red areas
Most reports list the top competitors at each point — that's who you're competing with there.
Metrics you'll see
| Metric | What it means |
|---|---|
| Average rank | Your mean position across all grid points |
| Top-3 coverage | Share of points where you appear in the map pack |
| Not found | Points where you don't appear in the tracked results |
Compare over time, not once
A single scan is a baseline. The value comes from re-running the identical grid monthly and watching coverage grow in the areas that matter to your business.
