Why Does My Google Maps Ranking Change Across Town?
Your Google Maps position isn't one number. It changes depending on where the person searching is located — sometimes block by block.

Distance is part of the ranking
Google lists distance as one of its core local ranking factors. When someone searches without naming a location, Google estimates distance from where they are. So a search from downtown and a search from the suburbs can return different map packs.
Why checking from your phone is misleading
Searching from your own office usually shows your best-case result, because you're standing next to your business. Your customers are searching from homes and workplaces spread across your service area.
Measure it with a grid
A GeoGrid runs the same search from many evenly spaced points around your business and records your position at each one. It shows where you're strong, where you fade, and where competitors take over.
Widening your reach
Stronger relevance and prominence can extend how far out you appear, but distance remains a real limit. The goal is expanding coverage where your customers actually are, tracked over time.
